Just a little bit about our wine list. Here
at The Andes Hotel we like to celebrate America, in our food, in our décor and
in the stuff we sip on . We have tried to create a list that highlights some
wonderful wines from the great wine producing areas of our country,
particularly the wines of California and The Finger Lakes, right in our
backyard. We hope you enjoy.

WHITE WINES
Chateau
Lafayette Reneau, Barrell Fermented Chardonnay, 05’ Finger Lakes NY 32.
Grown
on the shores of Seneca Lake, this wonderfully oaky Chardonnay has been winning
awards at competitions all over the country. It’s a well made wine perfect for
the oaked Chardonnay drinker.
Salmon
Run Chardonnay, 07, Finger Lakes NY 28.
Dr.
Frank makes very tasty wines, this is a very approachable, food friendly wine,
crisp with hints of oak, white peach and quince,
Red
Tail Ridge, Chardonnay, 07, “Nutt Road Vineyards” Finger lakes NY 32.
This
is a great find from the Finger Lakes, a nice un oaked Chardonnay, crisp and
dry.
Widely
known for Rieslings , The region could use more quality alternatives, and this
is one of them.
Martin
Ray “Angeline Vineyard” Gewurtztraminer, 05’ Mendocino Ca 46.
Bright
Aromas of Apricot, rose and pink grapefruit carry over to full flavors of the
same with a nice crisp finish and a light spicy note.
Hogue,
Pinot Grigio, 08 Columbia Valley WA 25.
Nice
Balance between acid & fruit, a pleasant, drinkable wine, with dinner or
all alone.
Heron
Hill, Riesling 06’ “Ingle Vineyard” Finger Lakes NY 36.
The
grapes in this wine, picked from the family vineyard at Heron Hill, give us a
wonderfully dry, crisp wine, great with salmon, or maybe some halibut
Peju,
Chardonnay, “Persephone Vineyard” 07’ Napa Valley CA, 80.
Drink
this wine, you will like it, very small batch production makes this barrel
fermented nicely oaked a rare find, always seems to make wine taste a little
better when you know nobody else will ever have any of it!!
Hermann
J. Weimer, Chardonnay 06’ Finger Lakes NY 34.
Weimer
has been making great wines since 1979 or so and they always prove to be some
of the best wines coming out of the region. This wine is nice and crisp with a
little hint of oak and a pleasant finish.
Heron
Hill Riesling” Reserve” 02’ Finger Lakes NY 38.
That
is not a typo, This Reserve Riesling from Heron Hill was bottled sometime in
2002 and it just keeps getting drier and drier. This is a great big Riesling,
big dry that is, so if that’s your thing, (it is my thing), then this is your
wine, enjoy.
Sebastiani,
Chardonnay 07’ Russian River Valley 35.
This
un oaked Chardonnay boasts a nice crispness, reminiscent of a sauvignon blanc
but with the fuller body of a California Chardonnay. Very clean and straight
forward, great balance.
Huntington, Sauvignon Blanc 07’ Dry Creek Valley 32.
Grapefruit,
melon, crisp acidity, nice balance, a great summer pour for the porch.
Prejean,
Riesling 07’ Finger Lakes NY 34.
We
love the slight sweetness of this dry Riesling, another tasty offering from the
Finger Lakes region. This wine doesn’t posses the” bone dry” characteristics
of some of its neighbors, making it attractive to the “fruit forward” fan.
Dr.
K Frank, Rkatsitelli, 06’ Finger Lakes NY 32.
This
is a very unique grape, sort of a first cousin to the more prolific
Gewurtztraminer. Originally grown in the Ukraine it packs the acid punch of the
“gewurtz” with less sweetness and a more herbal undertone.
Pindar,
“Summer Blush” NV North Fork , Long Island, NY 22.
No
frills here, get it cold and start sipping. This is a blended white wine with
the addition of north fork strawberry nectar, enjoy.
Hop
Kiln, Rosa Bellisima 05’ Russian River Valley Ca. 24.
This
is a great rose, slightly sweet but not a sugar bomb, very refreshing and great
for the summer heat or a winter fire.
RED WINES
Blackstone
Syrah, 2006, Ca. 28.
Big
Fruit and medium tannins up front in this California Syrah. The
wine is more akin to an Australian shiraz, tasty with a juicy steak off the
wood grill, it will stand up well to smoke.
Cartlidge
& Browne, Pinot Noir, Napa Valley Ca. 08’ 32.
This
is the classic Napa Valley Pinot, light with a little pepper and great body,
perfect with lighter meats, pork or roasted chicken.
Hosmer,
Cabernet Franc, 07’ Finger Lakes NY 34.
The
cabernet Franc grape does well in the Finger Lakes, and Hosmer is making one
of the better Cabernet Franc from the region. Traditionally a blending grape,
this wine doesn’t have the body of the Cabernet Sauvignon but it is well
balanced and very drinkable now.
Saintsbury,
Pinot Noir, “Toyon Farm” 06’ Carneros 78.
Deep
ruby color with aromas of concentrated raspberry and sour cherry, spice and
cola nut. A great Napa Valley Pinot Noir by a pioneer winemaker
B.R.
Cohn, Merlot, 04’, Sonoma Ca. 80.
This
is a full bodied, big mouth Merlot from the southern tip of Sonoma County. Aromas of blackberry, cherry and a hint of anise, imparted from a eucalyptus
grove adjacent to the vineyard give this wine a very unique character.
Peju,
Cabernet Franc, 05, Napa Valley Ca. 100.
Peju
makes great wine, in very small amounts, so some of us are sure to miss out.
With less than 1000 cases of this one made, there isn’t much left. Full bodied,
thanks to those 100 degree days in the summer, wonderful fruit without too
much tannin. It’s amazing to see what a great winery can do with a grape!
Erath,
Pinot Noir, 07, Oregon 38.
This
is a nice spicy, peppery wine, not to overwhelming. This one will work with a
juicy Steak or some grilled Salmon, or maybe some Quail, yum.
Stephen
Vincent “Crimson” 07, California 32.
This
Rhone Style blend, packs a nice little punch, soft tannins give in to
blackberry and ripe plum. It will stand up to a big juicy steak off our wood
grill, a great American “Rhone” wine.
Wild
Horse Pinot Noir, 07 Central Coast Ca. 48.
The
central coast has been putting out some great Pinots in recent years, a nice
warm relatively arid temperature really works with the grape. Blackberry in the
nose here, rose water and a little cinnamon, with a slightly peppery finish.
Cartlidge
& Browne, Cabernet Sauvignon, 07, Paso Robles Ca. 32.
The
slightly warmer Paso Robles AVA makes some big wines, full body and healthy
tannins. The “C&B” cab is a great wine, perfect for a steak, or a Kobe
Burger. This wine is drinking well right now but it could sit for a few more
years and get better and better.
Heron
Hill, Cabernet Franc, 05, Finger Lakes NY 35.
Another
winner from The Finger Lakes, finding tasty reds from the Finger Lakes can be
tough but we don’t give up. This wine has great body, full fruit and medium
tannins with a hint of dark cherry. Heron Hill always seems to run out of this
so.. hurry up… order one
Klinker
Brick, Zinfandel 05’ Lodi Ca. 40.
A
personal favorite,” jammy” would be an understatement, aging nicely and so so
drinkable. We’ve got the 06 in the cellar, so enjoy the 05’ while its still
around
Primarius,
Pinot Noir, 06’ Oregon 38.
Oregon has become a bastion for top notch Pinot Noirs in the
style of Burgundy, nice body, medium tannins and a peppery finish. This is a
great Pinot, it will hold its own with a ribey off our wood grill and it will
behave with a salmon filet.
“Cycles
Gladiator” Cabernet Sauvignon 07’ Ca. 28.
This
is simply a great Cabernet Sauvignon, well aged, great balance and easy drinking
with a steak or a burger. You can’t beat the value and wait till you taste it!
Silver
Palm, Cabernet Sauvignon , 05’ North Coast Ca. 40.
This
is a nice big wine, the tannins come out but the wine has enough body to make
for great balance. We call this a steak house red because it wants you to eat a
steak when you drink it, so do what you’re told!
Waterbrook,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve 06’ Columbia Valley Wa. 45.
MMM
good, this is a nice big Cab, great body, tannic to a point but not titanic.
Northwest climate does wonders for these grapes, swaddling them in a nice warm
mist day after day, have you ever seen the trees out there, they’re huge!!

food is the body of good living, wine is its soul”
